Tonight, the Union Fire Company No.1 is proud to announce that it is placing into service a brand new 2014 Pierce Arrow XT 105' Ladder Truck. A process which began over two years ago, the committee of Chairman Rich Terry, Deputy Chief Bob Prettyman, Past Chief Chris Obenchain, Win Slauch, and Past Chief Mark Vining, has worked to design, spec, and oversee this apparatus built. Delivered on April 4, it has been a long process of equipment and communications installs, manufacturer and company level training, and driver familiarization.

Some of the features include:

500 Horsepower DD13 Detroit Diesel engine, 105 foot rear mounted steel aerial,
281 feet of ground ladders, 15 KW Harrison hydraulic generator, 1000 GPM waterway.

This unit will replace a 1989 Pierce Arrow ladder truck that has served the department well over the last 25 years. Some of the innovations included in the new ladder that were not available in 1989 include "safe" short-jack capability, frontal and side airbags, a side roll protection system, electronic stability control, independent front suspension, Pierce PSV safety seats, a rear backup camera, an aerial collision avoidance system, and an additional 116 feet of ground ladders.

The Officers and Members of the Union Fire Company No. 1 would like to thank our members, our municipal leaders, and the citizens that we serve that have made this new ladder truck possible.

This contract, worth $938,000.00, solidifies the largest purchase in the 142 year history of the Union Fire Company No. 1.
