On Saturday morning at 02:22 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1 was alerted to Lees Bridge Road west of Red Pump Road for a reported fire in the woods.
Chief 21 (Prettyman) marked up and the Chester County Fire Radio advised that they had only received one call reporting flames and smoke coming from side of the road.
Chief 21 and Brush 21 (Fox) arrived to find a vehicle fully involved approximately 100 feet off of the roadway in a wooded area. The vehicle had rolled off of the road and struck numerous trees before coming to a stop on all four wheels. The crew from Brush 21 worked to gain access to the vehicle down a steep embankment and began fighting the fire.
Engine 21-4 (Taylor) and Engine 21-2 (Kinsey) arrived and began assisting in firefighting activities, checking the area for any victims, and providing a water supply for Brush 21.
The lone occupant of the vehicle was found in the underbrush approximately 10 feet from the vehicle. EMS providers from Ambulance 21-1 quickly assessed the injured subject and requested Medic 94 (SCCEMS) due to the nature of the injuries. All Crews worked together to package and extricate the patient from the wooded area up the steep embankment via a ground ladder.
Once removed to the Ambulance, the Patient was transported to the Christiana Hospital in Delaware.
Fire Units cleared the scene at 0408 hours.
