At 1845 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1, the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun (8), and Rescue 12 (West Grove) were alerted for the reported house on fire in the 100 block of West Hillside Drive in the Brookside Estates section of the Oxford Borough.
Assistant 21 (Terry) arrived with smoke showing from the Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie sides and fire showing from the Delta side of a 2-story wood frame single family dwelling. The "Hillside Command" was established and the Working Fire Dispatch was requested. This alerted Rescue 27 (Cochranville), Rescue 57 and Truck 57 (Quarryville) and Medic 94-1 (SCCEMS).
After a 360 degree size-up, Command requested a Second Alarm. This alerted the remaining units from West Grove and Cochranville.
Engine 21-1 (FF Slauch) arrived from the west side and took the hydrant directly across the street from the fire. The crew stretched the 2.5" Blitz Line to the Charlie/Delta corner and began a defensive attack. Engine 1's chauffeur was assisted by former volunteer firefighter that lived in the development with establishing a water supply from the hydrant.
Ladder 21 (Chief Kelley) arrived from the east side. The crew threw several ground ladders while the opertor set the aerial to the roof. Engine 21-2 (FF V. Brown) arrived behind Ladder 21. The crew assisted with ground ladders.
Chief 21 then led a crew that stretched an 1.75" handline from Engine 21-1 into the Alpha side and made their way to the second floor for fire attack.
Rescue 21 (FF Hastings) arrived and the crew went to the roof for vertical ventilation.
Engine 812 (Lt. Sawyers) arrived from the west and their crew stretched a second 1.75" handline from Engine 21-1 into the house.
Chief 22 (Felker) was given the Operation role.
Additional arriving units staged and sent their crews into the Manpower Pool that was established in the street in front of the house. Past Chief 22 (Simpson) was the Manpower Officer.
Crews were rotated in and out of the house performing various tasks and through rehab across the street.
The initial transfer units from Station 21, Engine 25-1 (Longwood), Engine 52-1 (Christiana), and Truck 42 (Gap), were moved into the scene for additional manpower.
The incident was placed under control with all units working at 1946 hours.
The final units were clear of the incident at 2207 hours.
Engine 73 (Port Deposit) and Tower 3 (Elkton) transferred to Station 21 to cover our District during the fire.
