At 0355 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1, the West Grove Fire Company and an Engine from the Cochranville Fire Company were alerted for a reported Building Fire at Hansbury Hall in Lincoln University along Baltimore Pike in Lower Oxford Township. Reports stated a trash can was on fire in a second floor bathroom.
Chief 21 (Terry) arrived to find an evacuated four story dormitory with nothing showing from all sides. After speaking with the police officers and being taken to the fire floor, Chief 21 discovered the fire in the bathroom with a smoke condition throughout the second floor. The "Lincoln Command" was established.
Engine 21-1 (Captain Prettyman) arrived and the crew went the interior with a thermal imaging camera and pressurized water extinguishers.
Ladder 21 (Safety Officer Reisinger) took the front of the building. The crew set up ventilation fans at the main entrance as well as on the second floor.
The interior crew made quick work of the small fire and radioed to command that ventilation was needed. With that report, Command placed the incident under control and held the response to the 21 units as well as the first due Engine of each mutual aide company.
Engine 22 and Engine 27-1 arrived and assisted with ventilation.
Engine 21-4 (Lieutenant Gray) arrived and the crew checked the third floor and confirmed a smoke condition.
Crews worked to removed the smoke from the building. The mutual aide Engines were released shortly afterwards.
The Chester County Fire Marshals Office responded to investigate.
The final units were clear of the scene at 0529 hours. |
