At 1734 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1 was alerted for a reported Motor Vehicle Crash at the intersection of Route 472 and Frog Hollow Road in East Nottingham Township. As units began to mark up on the air, the Chester County Fireboard upgraded the incident after receiving calls reporting a subject confined in the vehicle. This upgrade re-alerted Station 21 and added Medic 94 (SCCEMS).
Chief 21 (Terry) arrived and confirmed the two vehicle crash with multiple patients still in both cars. He established the "472 Command" and requested a second ambulance.
Ambulance 21-3 arrived and began patient triage. It was determined that extrication was needed on both cars. Command then upgraded the incident, requested a third ambulance (Cecil County, Maryland - Station 8 - Rising Sun) and a helicopter (SkyCare1) to be placed on standby. The helicopter was then requested to fly by the paramedics.
Rescue 21 arrived and positioned just south of the scene in a way to block traffic from getting into the scene. The crew split with half stablizing both cars and the others setting up the Hurst hydraulic rescue tools.
Engine 21-1 arrived and staged on Frog Hollow Road. The crew assisted with the extrication. Both crews worked to remove doors from both cars to gain access to all of the patients.
Engine 21-4 arrived and established a Landing Zone in a large yard just south of the scene.
Once all of the patients were removed from the cars, SkyCare1 flew one patient to the Christiana Hospital in Delaware. Ambulance 21-1, with Medic 94-2, transported one patientt and Cecil County Medic 893 transported two patients also to the Christiana Hospital.
The final units were clear of the scene at 1831 hours. |
