At 10:55 hours the Union Fire Company No.1 along with the West Grove Fire Company and the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun, MD were alerted for a house fire on Locust Street in the Borough of Oxford.
Initial reports from the Chester County Fireboard were a fire possibly spreading into the roof of the dwelling from an unknown source. Assistant Chief Vining arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed a working fire in an exterior wall and established the "Locust Street Command."
The Working Fire Dispatch was struck bringing Rescue 27 from the Cochranville Fire Company for Rapid Intervention, an engine from the Quarryville Fire Company, and an Advanced Life Support Unit from SCCEMS.
Engine 21-1 under the direction of Lieutenant Bob Prettyman Jr. forced entry through the front door and stretched an 1 3/4" line. The interior walls were opened up and all visible fire knocked down. Ambulance 21-2 assisted with making the hand stretch to the hydrant and rehab.
Ladder 21 under the direction of Chief's Aide Rick Prettyman arrived on the Western Terrace side and ran the main to the roof. The crew threw ground ladders and assisted with opening up from the exterior and checking for fire extension.
Chief Obenchain and his crew from Enigne 21-2 performed a Primary Search of the fire building which thankfully yielded negative results.
With the fire knocked down and crews confident that the fire had not extended through the balloon framed dwelling the assignment was reduced to the 21 units and the 8 Truck who assisted with additional overhaul.
The fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshals Office but is not believed to be suspicious in nature. No injuries were reported.
The Hoods Corner Crew was rollin' heavy today with more than two dozen volunteers on the fireground. All units cleared at 12:25 hours.
