| Box 2113
At 1510 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1 was alerted for a reported Chimney Fire on Somerset Drive in the Canterbury Acres section of West Nottingham Township.
Engine 21-1 was the first to arrive finding smoke showing from the rear of a 2.5 story single family dwelling. Lieutenant 21 (Slauch) requested a Working Fire Dispatch. Due to some CAD issues, this dispatch only re-alerted Station 21 and added Medic 94 (SCCEMS).
The crew deployed an 1.75" handline to the front door. Once inside, they encountered heavy smoke and fire on the first floor. The crew knocked the visible fire and made their way to the second floor.
Ladder 21 arrived and the crew threw ground ladders to the rear and then made the roof for vertical ventilation. Both interior and exterior crews completed the ventilation.
A second line was deployed to the rear of the house and was used to attack the visible fire that was on the outside that was unreachable by the interior crew.
Chief 21 (Obenchain) arrived and established the "Somerset Command". He requested two Engines and the Tanker from Rising Sun, MD (Stations 8, 18, & 28) and Engine 27-5 (Cochranville), that was already on the road transfering to Station 21. Chester County also rerouted Engine 5-1-1 (Bart Township) to respond into the scene.
Tanker 21 arrived and pulled in front Engine 21-1. A 6" soft suction was used to supply Engine 1 via the front intake.
Additional arriving crews staged in the front yard and assisted with Salvage and Overhaul operations.
The fire was placed under control with all units working.
The Chester County and Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshals Office investigated the incident.
The final units were clear of the scene and back in service at 1755 hours.
Engine 5-13-1 (Robert Fulton) and Tanker 26 (Atglen) handled the fill-in assignment at Station 21.
