Just before 1600 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1 was alerted for an engine to assist the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun on a reported residential structure fire in the unit block of Canterbury Ct., Cecil County, Maryland.
Engine 21-1 (Assistant Chief Kane) responded upon dispatch with 6 personnel.
Rising Sun Chief 8 was the first to arrive on-site, reporting flames coming from the roof and attic area of a 2-story home.
Engine 21-1 arrived as the third due engine; crew members operated on the 2nd floor to open the ceiling and expose the fire in the attic to be extinguished. Fire crews in that area were met with high heat and a large volume of fire directly above them, burning in the entire attic space and into the 2nd floor.
After supplying 1000 gallons of water to the scene, Engine 21-1 with its operator (Captain Kern) was directed to set up a fill site in a nearby natural water source to fill tankers due to having no hydrant in the area.
Engine 21-1 operated on scene and at the fill site for approximately 2.5 hours before being released by command and returned to Oxford to clean up.
No injuries were reported during this incident. |
