Cow Rescue in Lower Oxford

At 1153 hours, Chief 21 (Meadowcroft) was notified by the Chester County Fireboard of a reported cow stuck in a manure pit a farm in the 200 block of Widdowson Road in Lower Oxford Township.

The Union Fire Company No. 1, the Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company (36) and the Bart Township Fire Company (51) were then alerted to the scene. Station 36 and Station 51 are both equipped with specialized tools to be used in large animal rescues.

Crews arrived and confirmed one cow in the manure pit. The Crews worked to open the fence and to secure the cow from going under.

Lower Oxford Township also assisted with their front end loader.

Crews were able to harness the cow and tie it off to the loader. The loader was then able to safely lift the cow out of the pit and onto the hard ground.

After the successful rescue, the final units cleared in the incident at 1241 hours.
