Auto Extrication Class

At 5:30pm, after Union Fire Company No. 1 units cleared an outside gas leak in Oxford Borough, Rescue 21, Ladder 21, Engine 21-1, Ambulance 21-3 and Ambulance 21-2 headed out to 3D Auto Body & Collision Center in Lower Oxford Township for an auto extrication class put together by the National Auto Body Council.

Union Fire Company No. 1 crews joined crews from West Grove Fire Company, Cochranville Fire Company and West Bradford Fire Company.

Crews we're treated to a buffet dinner provided by Enterprise Rent-A-Car and allowed time to eat before the class got started. A door prize raffle was held for

The class started with a slide show presentation put together by ESI Equipment. The focus of the presentation was on hybrid and electric vehicles and new car construction technologies.

After the slide show presentation, crews headed outside where 2 motor vehicle crash scenarios were put together with donated cars provided by State Farm Insurance.

Instructors covered topics such as; removing doors, exposing vehicle trim and headliners to reveal hidden dangers such as airbags and seat belt pretensioner systems, and location reinforced steel.

Crews wrapped up shortly before 10pm.
