Building Fire in Lower Oxford

Fire Box 2111

At 2128 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1 along with units from the Quarryville Fire Company (57) and the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun, Maryland (8) were alerted for a reported Barn on fire in the area of Calvary and Lower Hopewell Roads in Lower Oxford Township.

Assistant 21 (Terry) arrived and corrected the address to the 1000 block of Hopewell Road and reported a 20'x20' shed fully involved with possible extension into a second building.

Engine 21-1 (Past Chief Obenchain) arrived and stretched approximately 1200' of 5" supply in the driveway. The crew then deployed two 1.75" hand lines and began to attack the fire.

Ladder 21 (Lieutenant Greene) staged next to Engine 21-1. The crew checked the exposure building to find only a smoke condition and no fire extension. The crew then assisted with overhaul of the fire building.

Chief 21 (Kelley) arrived and established the "Hopewell Command".

Engine 21-4 (FF Paxson) and Tanker 21 (Past Chief Fowler) established the water supply along Hopewell Road and prepared to supply Engine 21-1.

The fire was brought under control within minutes, the incident response was reduced to the Oxford units and Engine 812 from Rising Sun.

Engine 57-2 re-directed into Station 21 cover the First Due for the duration of the incident.

Crews worked to overhaul the entire building and soaked the scene in foam before wrapping up the tools and hose lines.

All units were clear at 2333 hours.
