At 1104 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1, along with units from West Grove (12/22/32), Rising Sun (8), and Singerly of Elkton (3), was alerted for a reported building fire in the 300 block of Blake Road in the Lewisville section of Elk Township.

Assistant 21 (Terry) arrived to find smoke showing from the roof of a two-story garage style wood shop. The "Blake Road Command" was established and the First Alarm Tanker Task Force was requested. This alerted Tankers from Elkton (3), Avondale (23), Cochranville (27), and Robert Fulton (Lancaster 89)

Engine 21-2 (Chief Kelley) assumed the First Due Engine role and dropped approximately 800' of 5" supply line in the driveway and pulled past the fire building. The crew deployed one 1.75" hand line and began an aggressive interior attack. The crew was met with fire and smoke conditions throughout the building.

Engine 21-1 (Past Chief Obenchain) picked up Engine 2's supply line at the end of the driveway and supplied the scene. The crew deployed a second 1.75" hand line to the second floor.

Lieutenant 18 (Sawyers) was appointed the Operations Officer.

Engine 13 arrived and the crew deployed a third hand line to side "C" in the rear.

Ladder 21 (Captain Meadowcroft) backed into the driveway. The crew through ground ladders while the Truck Chauffeur set up the aerial to the roof. Once in position, the Truck crew ascended the aerial and vented the roof.

A partial collapse of the second floor was reported and the Evacuation order was given. Once out of the building, all crews reported the crews intact and accounted for. A defensive attack was started.

A Folding Tank was placed into service on Blake Road allowing arriving Tankers dumped their water. Engine 812 established a Tanker Fill Site at a hydrant located on Fairview Road in Cecil County, Maryland, just a short distance from the scene.

Additional arriving units staged and sent their crews into the Manpower Pool in front of the Building. Assistant 18 (Bowser) assumed the Manpower Officer role. Crews were rotated throughout the incident performing various tasks around the scene.

The Chester County Fire Marshals Office investigated the incident.

The final units were clear of the incident at 1405 hours.

Engine 25-2 (Longwood) and Lancaster County Tanker 51 (Bart Twp.) transferred to Station 21 to cover the District.
