| On Thursday, July 9th, numerous members of the Union Fire Company No. 1, along with family and friends, traveled to the Wagontown Fire Company. The reason was for Chester County Fire Training's Spring 2009 Graduation. Four members of the Union Fire Company No. 1 were honored for their hard work and dedication to training. Firefighter Mark Groseclose was recognized for his completion of the Spring 2009 Firefighter I class, while Firefighters Bill Hirthler, Dave Messaros, and Brian 'Buzz' Slauch were recognized for their completion of the Firefighter II program. On hand as the guest speaker of the evening was Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers. As he welcomed the graduates he recalled his days in the Boy Scouts of America, and the United States Coast Guard, to go along with his 35 years of service to the City of Philadelphia. In the Spring of 2004, Commissioner Ayers also received a Master of Human Services Degree from Oxford's own Lincoln University. After the ceremonies, members and guests were able to meet, greet, and pose for pictures with the Commissioner. Instructor Jeff Groves led the services for the evening and assisted with Fire I Lead Instructor John DeMarco and Fire II instructor John Carbo in handing out the certificates and awards. Members from around the county were also honored for participating in the Pumper/Driver Operator Class instructed by our own Lonnie Brown. The Union Fire Company No. 1 would like to congratulate everyone who completed these various courses and encourages them to continue and advance their firefighting skills. |
