At 1551 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1 was alerted for a reported Car Fire on the southbound Route 1 Bypass just north of Route 272 in West Nottingham Township. Within a minute of that dispatch, as second incident was alerted for another Car Fire in the 2110 box on Elkdale Road in the Lincoln University section of Lower Oxford Township.

While crews were assembling at the firehouse, it was determined that the Elkdale Road incident appeared to be more serious. Engine 21-1 made the response with a crew of four.

Engine 21-2 with a crew of 5 responded to the Route 1 incident. While enroute, Firefighters Edward Slauch and Morgan "Poot" Derr advised the Engine that the vehicle had overheated and was in the process of leaving the scene. With that report, Engine 21-2 rerouted to the Elkdale Road incident.

Engine 21-1 arrived to find a working fire in the engine compartment of a car parked just feet from a house. The crew advanced a 1.75" handline and began attacking the fire.

Engine 21-2 arrived and staged at the Lincoln University Track and the crew went into the scene to assist with mop up.

The fire was under control within minutes and Captain 21 (McCormick) reduced the response to Engine 1 and Engine 2.

All units were back in service at 1645 hours.
