At 1420 Hours, Union Fire Company No. 1 was dispatched to the 100 block of Duck Farm Road in East Nottingham Township, for an Unknown Type Fire. A caller to the Chester County 911 center stated there was a fire at the address and disconnected. Additional information was received reporting the rear of the house to be on fire, upgrading the assignment to a Dwelling Fire.

This upgrade added Station 22 (West Grove), Cecil Station 18 (Community Fire Company of Rising Sun) for an Engine, Station 27 (Cochranville) for the Tanker, and Lancaster County Rescue 57 (Quarryville) for the Rapid Intervention assignment.

Engine 21-1 (Capt. Slauch) arrived as the first due engine, reporting a 2-story single family dwelling with smoke showing from the Charlie side and the roof. The crew stretched a 300' handline to the Charlie/rear side of the house and began fire attack.

Ladder 21 (Hoseman Holmes) arrived as the First Due Truck, completing a search of the house and set ground ladders.

Tanker 21 (FF Scheckner) arrived and supplied Engine 21-1. Engine 21-2 (Lt. Testa) arrived as the second due engine with it's crew going to the second floor and the roof to check for extension. Engine 22-3 arrived as the third due engine, assisting with ground ladders and stretching a backup line off Engine 21-1. Engine 22-1 arrived and completed a reverse lay, dropping 1200’ of 5” supply line down the road in case additional water was needed. Rising Sun units arrived and assisted with the overhaul.

Lancaster County Rescue 57 arrived and set up as the Rapid Intervention Team for a short time before being released by command.

Additional crews from West Grove, Cochranville, and Rising Sun assisted with opening up the walls/ceiling and extinguishing hotspots.

Engine 22-1 and Lancaster Rescue 57 covered an automobile accident in Oxford Borough during this incident along with Union EMS.

Mutual aid units began clearing the scene just after 1500 hours and all units were clear by 1700.

The fire is being investigated by the Chester County Fire Marshal's Office.

Deputy 21 (Meadowcroft) held the “Duck Farm Command.”
