| On Monday August 26, 2019, at their weekly training, numerous members of the Union Fire Company No 1 spent the night working on vehicle extrication.
The training started with a stabilization scenario provided to the firefighters to build on the previous weeks training. The Junk Yard Dog rescue struts and the winch on the rescue truck were used by the stabilization crew to create a effective “same side opposing forces” stabilization.
Members then spent the rest of the night working on the basics of extrication, including but not limited to removal of doors (including bat wing and gull wing techniques), Removal of roofs, roof flaps & various techniques to free pinned legs in the passenger compartment.
Safety considerations including electrical vehicles, fuel spills, air bags, lifting struts, bumper hazards, and traffic safety were also discussed.
