At 02:15 hours the Union Fire Company No. 1 was alerted for Tanker 21 to assist the Atglen Fire Department as part of the second alarm tanker task force on a working dwelling fire at 1500 block of Glen Run Rd. in West Fallowfield Township.
Initial calls to Chester County 911 advised that the house was fully involved. As West Fallowfield Police arrived a short time later, they confirmed the report, which compelled command (Chief 26) to request the tanker task force.
Engine 26-1 (Atglen) was the first to arrive and laid a supply line down the driveway from Glen Run Rd. They were soon followed by units from Station 27, as Engine 27-5 completed the lay from the end of the driveway, out to Bailey Crossroads. Multiple attack lines were placed in service and as many as four handlines were used at once.
Upon arrival, Tanker 21 was set up as the nurse tanker and supplied the scene with Engine 29-5, as thousands of gallons of water were pumped to the scene.
The crew of Engine 21-2 was sent directly to the scene and quickly put to work with fire suppression and overhaul on Side C. Due to the volume of fire that had consumed the structure, operations were from the exterior. The crew operated multiple handlines in an effort to extinguish the remaining debris that had fallen into the basement.
The 21 Units operated on scene for almost three hours before being released by command at 05:42 hours.
