One Trapped on Scroggy Road

Rescue Box 2111 At 1544 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1 was alerted for a reported Motor Vehicle Collision in the 600 block of Scroggy Road in Lower Oxford Township. Within moments of the dispatch, Firefighter Vince Brown arrived to find a single vehicle into a tree with one occupant trapped inside. This report upgraded the assignment and added Medic 94 (SCCEMS) and Ambulance 22-1 (West Grove). Chief 21 (Meadowcroft) arrived, confirming one subject trapped and one subject laying in the road, and established the "Scroggy Road Command". Rescue 21 (Captain Kinsey) arrived. The crew split with half stabilizing the vehicle and the others preparing the hydraulic rescue tools. Engine 21-1 (FF Taylor) and Squad 21 (FF Adams) arrived with their crews assisting with the extrication. Crews worked to remove the passenger side door and a front dash roll to free to the trapped occupant. All three responding Ambulances transported patients to the Lancaster General Hospital. The final units were clear of this incident at 1806 hours.

I was one of the four passengers in vehicle. Soon after the initial impact I heard through my broken door window "I'm a firemen and 911 has been called. This off duty firemen took total professional care of my wife and myself until ambulance and medic arrived. He was so reassuring and watched my wife closely as she was laying on side of road. My wife had back injury. I was most consented with my mother in law who was still entrapped In the vehicle under lots of heavy metal. When medic one i think ambulance one a true veteran with 32 years experience "mike" I think was his name took control of the medical part of the scene. I was pretty much in shock and told the medic I had chest pain and had difficulty breathing. Mike felt that I was his priority. He was so calming reassuring and professional my whole drive to Lancaster general i just knew he was another angel sent my way from the big guy in heaven. He kept me updated on the situation throughout. My wife can't thsnk that angel of the off duty firemen that helped her stay calm enough. Neither can I. I only left my wife to see part of my mother in laws extrication, but now these pictures fill in all the blanks. You firemen were awesome and had her extricated from the car in no time. All four of us are injured but alive! I'm in tears now writing this to all of you. The people of Oxford , pa. Are so so so lucky and blessed to have al of you watching over them! I thank our good lord for sending All of you angels to our aid when we do desperately needed it . You were perfect and I cannot thank you all enough! Frank Dennis Tannersville , Pa.
