Fire Box 2105

At 1332 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1, along with units from the West Grove Fire Company (22), Community Fire Company of Rising Sun, Maryland (8), Singerly Fire Company of Elkton (3), Maryland, and Cochranville Fire Company (27), was alerted for a reported garage on fire in the 2200 block of State Road in the Tadpole section of Elk Township. Numerous calls to 911 reported a large detached garage on fire with extension into a camper and exposure to a house. The Working Fire Dispatch was requested, re-alerting the initial companies as well as Tanker 27, Tanker 23 (Avondale), Medic 94 (SCCEMS), PECO, and the Chester Fire Marshals.

Assistant 21 (Meadowcroft) arrived to confirm a fully involved 2-car garage with a nearby shed and camper also on fire and established the "State Road Command".

Engine 21-1 (LT. Kinsey) arrived and laid a 5" supply line from the intersection of State Road and Lewisville Road (Route 472) into the driveway. The crew then stretched two 1.75" handlines to the fire. Chief 21 (Prettyman) took the Operations Role.

Tanker 21 then picked up the line at the intersection and supplied the scene while setting up a dump site with the folding tanks. Additional arriving units dumped their water and sent their crews into the scene to assist with fire attack and overhaul. Once Tanker 21 was empty, Engine 22-2 drafted from the folding tanks and supplied the scene for the remainder of the incident.

Engine 813 was sent to a hydrant at State Road and Thunder Hill Road to fill Tankers.

Crews worked to bring the fire under control, preventing any further damage to the nearby house and vehicles in the driveway.

The Chester County Fire Marshals investigated the incident and no injuries were reported.

The final units were clear of the incident at 1700 hours.

Engine 57-2 (Quarryville) transferred to Station 21 to cover the area.
