Rescue Box 810

At 0822 hours, Ambulance 21-1, while clearing a call in the 1800 block of Telegraph Road in the Calvert section of Cecil County, Maryland, Cecil Dispatch hailed them and directed them to respond to a reported Motor Vehicle Collision (MVC) with unknown injuries at the intersection of Conowingo Road (US 1) and Little New York Road in the Sylmar section of the county.

Ambulance 21-1 was the first unit on the scene, finding a two vehicle MVC with one subject heavily trapped. The EMS Crew updated the information to Cecil Dispatch and started providing care to the patient trapped in the vehicle. Rescue 21 was requested a short time later to assist with extrication.

Rescue 21 (Lieutenant Greene) responded with a crew of 4 from Midtown and Utility 21 (FF Charlton) responded from the Nottingham Station.

Once on location, Rescue 21 and Utility 21 finished stabilizing the vehicle and began to remove the roof of the vehicle. Once the roof was removed and crews had improved visibility of the patient it was the determined that the dashboard was pinning the patient's legs still. Crew's utilized the large spreader's AKA "Jaws of Life" to pry and lift the dashboard off the patient's legs.

With the dashboard lifted and the patient's legs free, crews worked together to safely bring the patient out of the vehicle and on to the stretcher. The patient was then packaged and transported to the Christiana Hospital in Delaware.

The final units were clear of the scene at 0906 hours.
