Building Fire in Oxford Borough

On Saturday afternoon at 17:06 hours, Station 21 and mutual aid units were alerted to 405 Market Street in Oxford Borough for a reported building on fire. The working fire dispatch was quickly transmitted bring additional mutual aid units to the scene. Deputy 21 was first arriving, confirming fire showing on the bravo side of the mixed occupancy and established the "Market Street Command".

Members from Union and surrounding fire companies worked for several hours to bring the stubborn fire in the large building under control. Crews completed fire suppression activities on both the interior and exterior of the building. The fire was placed under control at 18:30 hours with members remaining on-site working into the evening hours.

While units were still being returned to service, Chief 21 located smoke in the building in a division two apartment mid-block. Chief 21 requested the box alarm re-transmitted, returning first alarm companies to the incident scene. Members from Union and surrounding companies again conducted fire suppression activities to place the fire under control by 22:00 hours. After several hours of working to expose hidden voids and multiple roof systems, total extinguishment of the structure was declared at 01:00 hours. Chief 21 held the "Market Street Command".

Union firemen cleared the incident by 02:00 hours Sunday morning.

**While units were operating at the building fire, Ladder 25 and Lancaster Engine 51-1 responded from Station 21 quarters, along with mutual aid companies to a reported garage on fire on Limestone Road in Upper Oxford Township. Ladder 25 arrived with smoke showing from a 50x100 garage. The incident was investigated and quickly scaled back to Ladder 25 and Lancaster Engine 51-1. Longwood Fire Captain Wells held the "Route 10 Command" before returning units to service.
