On Friday afternoon, the Union Fire Company No. 1 was alerted for an Auto Accident at Route 472 and State Road in the Tadpole section of Elk Township. Immediately after dispatch, the assignment was upgraded to an Accident with Entrapment. This added Medic 94, Ambulance 22-2 and an Ambulance from the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun, Maryland.
Responding Units were advised of a two vehicle accident with possibly 4 patients trapped.
Rescue 21 made the response from the Midtown Station. Safety 21 was first on the scene, reporting there was still one patient trapped and that a "door pop" would be needed. Other patients had self-extricated, but multiple Ambulances and ALS units would be needed.
Two Ambulances made the response on behalf of Station 21 EMS, along with two Ambulances from the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun, MD, Medic 94-1, Medic 94-2, Lancaster Medic 7-7-9, and EMS Chief 8 (CFCRS).
The Rescue crew stabilized the vehicle that still had an occupant. The driver's door was removed in an effort to free the patient. EMS crews began patient assessment and treatment immediately to make sure everyone was transported in a timely manner.
Engine 21-1, Engine 21-3, Utility 21 and Squad 21 all responded as well, with their crews assisting with patient care and packaging.
The 21 Units were available within an hour.
