Box 2106

At 0732 hours, the Union Fire Company No. 1 was alerted for a reported Motor Vehicle Collision with unknown injuries at milemarker 8.5 on the southbound Route 1 bypass in Lower Oxford Township. Reports stated that a van had run off of the roadway.

Within minutes, after receiveing additional 911 calls reporting subjects trapped, the Chester County Fire Communications upgraded the box and added Medic 94 (SCCEMS) to the incident.

Ambulance 21-2 was the first unit to arrive confirming one van off of the roadway and down a 40 foot embankment. After a quick size-up, they determined that there was no entrapment.

Rescue 21 (Captain Paxson) arrived and began setting up a haul system using the rope and rigging equipment. Captain Paxson established the "Route 1 Command".

Additional arriving units staged and the crews assisted at the scene with patient care and removal.

Both patients self-extricated themselves. One of the patients was able to climb the embankment and met the EMS crews. The Fire Crews assisted with packaging the second patient and worked together to raise the loaded stokes basket up the hill to the awaiting ambulance.

Both patients were transported to the Christiana Hospital in Delaware.

Null's Towing assisted at the scene with removing the van from the ravine.

The final 21 units were clear of the scene at 0825 hours.

Units: Ambulance 21-1, Ambulance 21-2, Engine 21-3, Rescue 21

Mutual Aid: Medic 94-1, Medic 94-2, PSPA
